Durham Business School
The DBS & EBS Executive MBA

Course Description
The programme is taught equally by academics from both partner institutions and upon successful completion, you will receive a dual award MBA from both institutions. The programme focuses on the core needs of international executives - strategic thinking, leadership skills and intercultural awareness.
The strength of the Durham Executive MBA programme is its relevance to you and your employer. Reflecting the business climate and learning from successes and challenges, our connections with the business world ensure your MBA is kept current and relevant.
Programme Structure and Delivery
The DBS & EBS Executive MBA is structured into three consecutive stages:
- Seven core modules: Strategic Management; Managing in the Competitive Environment; Managing in the Global Environment; Managing Finance; Managing People; Modelling and Analysis for Management; Methods of Inquiry.
- Electives: your choice of five electives allow you in-depth study and reflection and provide an opportunity to enhance and deepen knowledge and skills in areas of particular interest to you, and relevant to your future career. The electives we offer vary depending on current faculty, research and relevance to business. For a list of electives currently on offer, please visit www.dur.ac.uk/dbs
- Dissertation: the MBA programme culminates in a 15,000-word dissertation or business project. The business topic of the dissertation is chosen by you, and overseen by a supervisor with relevant academic/consultancy experience.
In addition to excellent academic teaching, Durham provides you with additional activities that add value to the experience and to your MBA.
Continual Professional Development Programme
A Continual Professional Development (CPD) Programme runs alongside the taught academic programme and ensures that Durham MBA graduates possess the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to excel in the academic and the business world. It is modelled upon those skills sought by leading MBA recruiters.
Boardroom Activity
A key part of the core programme is the Boardroom Activity, an experience unique to the Durham MBA programme, which integrates academic learning from the core modules into a live boardroom situation.
